Space Shuttle photograph of Lanai, which measures 30 x 21 km in size. Notice the deep river valleys around the edge of the island, which mark the outer flanks of this old shield volcano. The cloud at lower right hides part of the old Palawai Caldera, which now forms a basin that is about 4 km diameter. Until recently, Lanai has been one of the centers for growing pineapples in Hawaii.
