~2.5 km along the Mauna Loa Road from Hwy. 11, one comes across a wonderful Bird Park. This is a " kipuka " of old trees that may be > 600 years old. These trees have been lucky enough to avoid being run-over by lava flows from Mauna Loa. Notice the greater variety of trees, which are up to 15 meters high. In the middle distance, there is also another small SE-facing pali. You have now viewed all the ground photographs that correspond to the numbered locations in the AIRSAR image. To revisit any of these locations, pick a point from the Radar Tour page.
