This is taken from the western side of the 1959 ash deposit from Kilauea Iki (close to Devastation Trail; Site #20 ). The view is similar to that at Site #6 and Site #8 , in that the forest in the middle distance is ~200 year old Ohia (maybe 10 - 12 m tall). In the foreground, we see recent regrowth that has taken place since the 1959 eruption (the bushes are ~1 - 2 meters tall). The uniform gray area at center left is the floor of the caldera (mainly the 1919 and 1974 lava flows). We can also see the same slump blocks that are shown at Site #5 .
