Stop 5: Napili Bay
As one drives north of Lahaina, there are several exposures in the road cuts that give interesting insights to the evolution of West Maui. Here we see (at bottom) a layer of ash that was erupted from a cinder cone at the coast. On top this ash is a younger lava flow, but cutting vertically through both of these units is an intrusive volcanic dike.
