Stop 8: The Youngest Maui Lava Flow
Many people think that Haleakala is an extinct volcano, but in fact it erupted just as white explorers reached the islands. This is a view looking up the SW Rift Zone of Haleakala at the lava flow that is believed to have erupted about 1790. Perhaps one day in the future there will be another eruption on Maui?
