THE SCENERY OF KA IWI AND WAIMANALO
More walking along the Koolau Ridge lets us look back at Makapuu Point, and the lighthouse that we have seen from several different directions in other parts of this tour. Notice how steep the cliffs are along this part of the coastline, and the odd shape of the valley that extends off to the right. The valley was once a stream valley, but a long time ago (we do not know how long -- maybe a hundred thousand years, maybe one or two million years) the eastern part of Oahu fell into the ocean. This not only created the cliffs, but also removed all of the head-waters of the stream, so that it is now a dry valley. Click here to see the next ridge view.
