THE SCENERY OF KA'IWI AND WAIMANALO

The Waimanalo Beach Area

The Virtually Hawaii Team includes several volcanologists, so that it should come as no suprise that even when we head to the beach, we're looking at the rocks! Here is a nice view of a thick sequence of lava flows in the old Koolau Shield. Each of these flows is about 1 - 2 meters thick, and may have originated from the summit of the volcano more than 15 km away. Click here to go to the next stop along the beach.
