Coconut Island is just visible from the Pali Lookout, from where we can see that the island is just off-shore and well within the main reef of Kaneohe Bay.

One can get a much better view of the coral reef around Coconut island using the TerraSystems Camera. Here we see the area in natural color, but take a look at the next image where infrared light gives us more detailed information on the distribution of vegetation on the island.

Taken at the same time as the previous image, this TerraSystems infrared photo of Coconut Island shows us exactly where all of the vegetation is growing on the island. The spectral properties of plants make them very bright in the near-infrared, which is why they appear pink/red in this image.
