Stop 6: Makiki
Away from the tourist areas of Waikiki, the Makiki district offers some interesting glimpses into the way of life of the residents of Honolulu, and the places where they go for relaxation.
Central Union Church, on South Beretania Street, has an impressive clock tower and frontage that is unusual in Hawaii.
One of the best kept secrets in Honolulu is the diversity of interesting exhibits at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.
Thomas Square (this and the next photo), at the corner of Beretania St. and Ward Avenue, has many fine banyan trees. Especially near Christmas, Thomas Square often plays host to crafts sales and other sources of entertainment.
From here you can continue on to Stop 7.
